About Lake Tahoe: the back story

Lake Tahoe sits high in the Sierra Nevada on the California–Nevada border. The California side includes Tahoe City, the west shore with Emerald Bay, Olympic Valley and Truckee to the north, and South Lake Tahoe.

Summer

Emerald Bay, D. L. Bliss State Park and the beaches of the west shore.

Winter

Palisades Tahoe, Northstar and Heavenly are the big ski areas.

Emerald Bay is Lake Tahoe’s most famous view.

Getting there

Fly to Reno-Tahoe in Nevada; in winter check Caltrans chain controls on the mountain passes.

Our advice: carry chains in winter, and book summer weekends early.
