About Santa Barbara & Montecito: the back story

Santa Barbara sits between the Santa Ynez Mountains and the Pacific, with Spanish Revival architecture, a beachfront and the Old Mission above the town. Montecito is next door.

The town

The County Courthouse, the Museum of Art and State Street’s shops are downtown; the Old Mission stands above.

Montecito

Montecito is a quiet enclave of estates, with Rosewood Miramar Beach on the sand.

Santa Barbara is about two hours from LA by car or by the Pacific Surfliner.

Islands and wine

Boats leave for Channel Islands National Park, and the Santa Ynez Valley’s wineries are inland.

Our advice: arrive by train on the Pacific Surfliner and walk.
